Pediatric Hypertension: Prevalence, Diagnosis, Basic Approach

Wednesday, October 9, 2024  |  8:00 am – 9:00 am - Register here

Presented by:
Ruby Patel, MD, | Clinical Associate Professor | Division of Pediatric Neurology

In the U.S., hypertension is an epidemic.  It is the number one attributable risk factor for death throughout the world.  Pediatric hypertension is one of the strongest predictors of adult hypertension.  It is a growing concern and should be diagnosed and treated aggressively to reduce the global disease burden. The knowledge and skills to treat this disease have become a necessity for clinical teams in pediatric primary care. If you are a part of the primary care team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, or pediatric/adolescent care providers, this education is targeted for you. This course will be delivered virtually, and will use case studies and a Q & A session to provide the interprofessional team with successful strategies to support youth with this aggressive, life altering disease.

At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees should be able to state the definitions of hypertension based on stage and age, diagnose and manage patients with hypertension based on stage and cause, use standard lab work up to assist with diagnosis and know when to refer to a specialist.
