Conflict of Interest Manager

The following email is sent when an Department Chair is assigned to an application.


Subject: Michigan Medicine CME Conflict of Interest Manager Instructions

Dear CONFLICT OF INTEREST MANAGER NAME,

This email serves as confirmation of your assignment as the Conflict of Interest (COI) Manager for the upcoming CME activity, ACTIVITY TITLE. The COI Manager is the designated individual without a conflict of interest assigned to review educational content of individuals with potential conflicts of interest to ensure planning and presentations are free from commercial bias and balanced in content. Please review the Planning Guide: Managing Conflicts of Interest for more information on this important responsibility.

Action Items (2):

1. Disclose Your Financial Relationships
Please follow the steps below to provide information regarding your own financial relationships now:

  • Login to your MiCME account
  • Select Dashboard --> Important Actions --> Complete Required Forms
  • In the Financial Relationships section, complete the My Financial Relationships form. Relationships entered here will be saved for all subsequent CME activities to which you are assigned over the next 12 months. The form be updated at any time as relationships change.

Note: M-Inform data previously entered by University of Michigan faculty will automatically populate the My Financial Relationships form. Any updates or changes must be made directly in M-Inform via the link provided on the form, and will appear in MiCME once refreshed.

  • Finally, in the Conflicts of Interest section, complete the Conflict of Interest (COI) Identification Tool to verify that your relationships (if any) are not relevant to the content of this activity.

2. Complete the Conflicts of Interest Management Form
Once you have verified that you have no conflicts of interest, review the conflicts identified by other Activity Planning Team members, decide on a management option, and then complete the Conflict of Management Form to document your decision. The Conflict of Management Form is located in the same section as the COI Identification Tool.
